Join the Clapham Flood Group
Clapham Parish Council is looking for additional volunteers to join the Clapham Flood Group and help strengthen our community's resilience during periods of severe weather.
Flooding can affect roads, homes, businesses and essential services with little warning. Having a team of local volunteers ready to support the village can make a significant difference to how effectively we prepare for, respond to and recover from flooding incidents.
The good news is that no experience is required. We are simply looking for people who care about their community and are willing to lend a hand when needed.
What Do Flood Group Volunteers Do?
Our volunteers undertake a variety of roles depending on their skills, interests and availability. These include:
Delivering Flood Warnings
Helping ensure important information reaches residents quickly and safely.
Assisting with Equipment
Supporting the deployment of pumps, barriers and other equipment when required.
Supporting Vulnerable Residents
Checking on neighbours who may need practical assistance or reassurance during severe weather.
Communications
Sharing updates, gathering information and helping keep residents informed.
Administration and Record Keeping
Providing valuable support behind the scenes by helping maintain information and records.
Logistics and Coordination
Assisting with transport, supplies and the coordination of local response activities.
Every role plays an important part in helping the village respond effectively during periods of flooding.
Do You Own a 4x4?
We are particularly keen to hear from residents who own suitable 4x4 vehicles.
During severe flooding, access to some areas can become difficult. Volunteers with appropriate vehicles can provide invaluable support by helping transport equipment, supplies and information to locations that may otherwise be hard to reach.
If you own a 4x4 and would be willing to assist in an emergency, we would be delighted to hear from you.
