Saturday morning 11th February: Local residents advised of a serious water leak which was reported to Anglian Water. Authority by the Parish Council. Other residents had already reported the issue and we were given a six hour response window.
Clapham Parish Council and Clapham Flood Group informed neighbours of the problems. They advised residents that Anglian Water had told the Parish Council that repairs would take place after 10pm due to the need for the water pressure to drop.
Sunday morning, 12th February: Water levels have risen considerably and will soon breach homes. The Parish Council and Flood Group again assisted residents and contact was made with Bedford Borough Council who assisted with what had been, until this point, wholly inadequate road closures put in place by Anglian Water. The Parish Council were also notified by AWA that work had to stop as there was a gas pipe close to where the water main had burst.
As a result, Anglian Water are now waiting the arrival of Cadent (Gas) to assess the situation. Once completed, it's hoped the go-ahead will be given for repair work to the 12” water pipe which has been flowing freely onto the highway for over 24 hours.
Clapham residents are now at the mercy of Cadent attending the site in order to allow repair work to start.
